Power and water co-production feasibility study for Florida power & light power plants
The viability of converting existing Florida Power and Light Company power plants to dual-purpose power and water desalination plants was evaluated. Low temperature multi-effect distillation and reverse osmosis were concluded to be suitable technologies for desalination of either seawater or brackish water in large scale dual-purpose plants. The cost of desalinated water produced by reverse osmosis was evaluated to be less than that produced by multi-effect distillation for either a seawater or brackish water source.
